Go to www.storyofstuff.com and click Play. You will watch a 20 minute video of Annie Leonard as she takes you through a fast-paced and real look at how consumption affects the world around us. It is as funny as it is educational. By making the topic entertaining, I believe that the message is easier to accept by a wider audience. You don’t have to take a “doom and gloom” perspective in order to change people’s minds about changing their habits. Highly recommended!

Kids say the darndest things…

I have 2 little children who take our home recycling efforts seriously. Of course, ate ages 4 and 6 they really do not know any other way. We have taken them to several of the events in April, and started calling them “recycling festivals.” At one such festival, I was off listening to a speaker and my wife was trying to keep the girls interested by taking a walk with them along the Illinois River in downtown Peoria. They spotted several slices of Old Chicago pizza down near a dock. My 4-year old preschooler proclaims:

“Whoever threw the pizza down there doesn’t celebrate Earth Day!”

Hilarious. Who knew she was paying attention? :)
